Polenz Declared Winner Of ODS 75 Lap Event Last Saturday Night…….6/9/11

Runner-up finisher David Polenz was declared the winner of last Saturday night’s 75 lap feature for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Cars. After distributors from the top three finishers were removed and inspected this week, it was determined that the distributor in apparent winner Brandon Brown’s Chevy was deemed illegal. This dropped Brown to the rear of the finishing order, and handed the win to Polenz. It was his second feature win of the season, which also pushed him to the top of the points chase. With the additional 5 bonus points for winning, he now leads defending track champ Adam Brenner by six points.

As Per The Old Dominion Speedway Officials and Web-Site.

Not necessarily the way you want to get a win, but we will take it and head back to Old Dominion Speedway this weekend for twin 50 lap features.

Unfortunately in these cases the actual winner doesn’t end up in Victory Lane, but had we been in Victory Lane I’m sure it would have looked something like this.

Practice

We unloaded the car Saturday afternoon and started practice at 2 pm. The new steering box we installed this week was better than the new one we had in last week. The car was handling good and David was 2nd quickest through all three sessions.

Qualifying

David was the fifth car out for qualifying and he was able to put down a good lap, he ended up second quickest. After the invert and handicapping David would be starting the 75 lap feature from the third spot.

 75 Lap Race

On the Start of the race David ended up getting shuffled back a few spots. It took a few laps for the tires to heat up and it made the car a little edgy at first but about fifteen laps in the car started coming back and the handling got better. From lap fifteen on David started making his way forward one spot at a time. By the time he got back to third spot he was about a half a straight away behind the front two cars. On lap fifty one the caution came out, that allowed David to get right on the back bumper of the second place car. David had a good battle for position for a few laps which allowed the leader to get a large lead on them. Once David completed the pass for second place he set his sights on the leader. With about five laps to go David was just a few car lengths behind the leader. David kept pushing hard and got to his back bumper entering in to turn one on the last lap, by the time they entered turn three David had his nose underneath the leader and they were side by side coming out of turn four heading to the finish line, the other car beat David to the line by about five feet, it was definitely exciting to watch and the fans were screaming and loving it. David finished second in the race and that was good enough to put him in to the lead in the Late Model Championship point standings at Old Dominion Speedway.

Next Friday David has an appearance at the On The Run store in Laurel Maryland from 4pm-7pm, check on DavidPolenzRacing.com for details.

Next Saturday night is another twin 50 lap night for the Late Models at Old Dominion Speedway. Come on out and see David race two awesome races and try to extend his point lead.
