Practice

David Polenz and the Redline Power Rush crew took the #33 On the Run Late Model to the top of the charts in first practice.  David was very satisfied with the Moon prepared racecar, so he decided only to run a short run in 2nd practice and get ready for qualifying.

Qualifying

David and crew chief Bob Moon, decided to make no changes for qualifying, and the decision turned out to be a great one.  David was only .020 seconds from getting his first pole of the season, he was still excited with the 2nd place run.  He would start 3rd after the points invert of the top 6, starting him behind teammate Dave Moon in the double points Legends Reunion Lee-Grant 100 lap racing event presented by Al Gore.

100 Lap Event

David entered the double points night with a 45 point deficit from current leader Doug Liberman, even with missing three races. 45 points is the maximum amount of points you can win in a race, so David knew with two strong finishes, he could be in position to defend his 2011 title.  David prepped for the edurance event and hammered down his usual Redline Power Rush, before he lined up in his 3rd place starting position. When the green flag flew, being aggressive as he’s been all year, David muscled his way into the 2nd position.  David was very patient trailing the lead, knowing he had 99 laps to go, and had to save his tires.  David pressured the leader, literally having the nose of the Circle K 33 an inch under his rear bumper for the first 48 laps.  He knew if the leader slipped up he could easily capitalize.  On Lap 50, exactly half way, David took his 33 to the front of the 18 car field.  Even with the following four cautions, he held on strong, and eventually pulled away from the second place finisher to take home the checkered flag.  David climbed from his late model victorious, soaking the crew and fans with the new Gazzu Energy Refuel Tea-Lemonade.

Polenz made up 21 points in the championship standings leaving only 24 points to make up going into the final double points event, “The Big One”.  He was coined the name Mr. September, by a fan, for being four for seven in the month, in his short Late Model Career.  David dominated “The Big One”, 3 years ago, and has made sure it is known he is a serious threat to defend his title.  David has been in this position before and is applying the pressure to the current point leader, who is short of a late model title.  David knows its his to win and their’s to lose, and hopes to take home two trophies September 15th at Old Dominion Speedway, where the exciting season finale will determine it all.  As we know he never gives in until the checkered flies… See you then!
