Just Another Day At The Track

Youth For Tomorrow 150

Pre-Race Activities

The day was all about raising awareness and money for the Joe Gibbs Youth For Tomorrow home for under privileged kids and about giving back to the fans who cheer us on every week. After qualifying all of the Late Models lined up on the front stretch and the fans were allowed to come on to the track to get an up close look at the cars and get autographs from the drivers. David was able to spend this time with the Redline Power Rush girls, giving out free samples of Redline Power Rush Shots, Redline Extreme drinks and GazZu Energy drinks. The Girls were also autographing and giving away Redline calendars.

Practice

The Youth For Tomorrow 150 at Old Dominion Speedway has been much anticipated by everyone, especially since it was postponed due to rain last week. With the size of the event and the large car count the track officials opened the track two hours early. This meant that practice would be two hours earlier too. We hit the track at 11:30am, the car was pretty good, David thought the car was a little tight. We adjusted the car between practices and the car got better each time. After the third practice David was 2nd quickest on the speed chart.

Qualifying

David was the 18th car out for qualifying and his lap was pretty good, it put him 2nd at the time, but cloud cover came in for the next group of cars and that helps the track get faster. After qualifying David was 5th quickest out of the 26 cars that qualified. The officials did a six car invert and that put David on the outside pole.

150 Lap Race

On the start of the race David got hung up in the outside line and lost a few spots in the first couple laps. After that he was able to get to the inside line and start racing. About 15 laps in he started to say the car was getting tight, this kept getting worse as the laps wore on. The race went 106 laps before the first caution, David was in 6th place at this time, we decided that we needed to come in to the pits and make an adjustment. This cost David 9 spots and he restarted 15th. At first David didn’t think the adjustment helped but after just a few laps the car came to life and he started working his way forward. With just 44 laps to go he had his work cut out for him. Every couple laps he was picking up spots and by the time a late race caution came out he was sitting in 4th. On the final restart David was able to race hard but with just a few laps left there wasn’t enough time to move forward, then on the last lap the caution came out again and the race finished under caution. David ended finishing 4th.

Coming Up
