Twin 50 Lap Features Are Always Crazy And Saturday Night Was Proof Of That!

As we have said in the past dual features always make for some interesting racing and Saturday night was every bit of that.

The day started with three rounds of practice which proved to be a little bit of a struggle for us. We worked on the car before all three rounds and we never got the car where David was comfortable with it. We were about mid-pack in speed every round.

We made more adjustments to the car for qualifying and that proved to not be quite right either, David timed in a disappointing seventh quickest. That meant we missed the invert and would start seventh in the first 50 lap feature.

50 Lap Race #1

Let The Craziness Begin

On the start of the race it didn’t take long, just after the first lap ended there was a wreck coming out of turn two. Fortunately it was behind us. On the next restart there was more craziness just a few cars behind David a couple of cars tangled again. Once the race restarted it looked like it was going to shape up to be a calmer race. That lasted about thirty laps, David was in 6th at this point, then the caution came out when the leaders tangled trying to get around some lap traffic. The leader ended up in the inside wall and the second place car got sent to the back, evidently he was not happy because he parked his car on the front stretch and got out of his car and walked into the pits. He was done for the night and his car was towed to the infield. This now put David in fourth, on the next restart things looked like they were going to work out for us, but the car in front of us started to spin and came across the track in front of us, David did a good job staying out of it but he lost a spot doing so. with just a few laps to go he ended up finishing fifth.

50 Lap Race #2

More Of The Same

David started the second race in fifth, it didn’t take long for things to get crazy again, on the start several cars came together on the front stretch but they kept going, for about a lap then they wreck again. After that things sorted out pretty good and the race went about twenty five laps before another caution. At this point David was in third. On the next restart the car behind us got in to our back bumper and shoved us up the banking in turn one and that allowed him to pass us and another car get along side of us. David put up a good fight but this car used up the side of David’s car and just about wrecked us. So from there on out David had to just try to finish, the car was beaten and battered and David still brought it home fifth.

A tough night at the track but David ended up in the top five for both races, unfortunately that wasn’t good enough to hold on to the point lead. He is now second in points. We’ll go get’em  next week in the 75 lap event next on the schedule.
